Skin Grafts for Skin Cancer Surgery

Grafts are skin taken from some other part of the body to replace the skin that was taken off. The reason for doing this is very similar to that for doing flaps. Flap is the first choice since there is no need to numb another area of skin. If flap is not possible than a skin graft is utilized.

Skin grafts can either be partial or split thickness skin grafts(PTSG or STSG) or full thickness skin grafts(FTSG). This means how thick the skin is taken and most cases can be dealt with by split thickness skin graft. The area where the skin was taken from go on to heal like a graze.

If you a registered patient at Eastmed Doctors, please contact your own GP. If you are casual patient contact Dr Siva to discuss mole removal.
